Role of Libraries in the Post Peak Oil Transition

I just heard a fantastic radio show which filled me with hope on the internet, KPFA.org, Archives, The Visionary Activist (under "The") January 29, 2009.
David Blume talking about solving out energy deficit by quickly and completely converting from oil dependence to creating energy locally--by turning a variety of substances formely thought of as waste--weeds, grass clippings, manure (I think)--into alcohol. This can be used in cars, etc. He has a permacultural approach.

He has a book and a DVD titled Alcohol can be a Gas! Anyone know about this?

Hey! Wasn't that the name of the book that someone shared with the group at the Transition Libraries unconference?
Two things.
My current understanding is that alcohol can only be made from manure if it is used to grow, for instance, cat tails--then make them into alcohol. The are carbohydrate rich.
In the same vein, making alcohol from grass or other cellulose requires a different process than making it from a source consisting primarily of carbohydrates.
A new book is coming out in August
Alcohol Fuel: A Guide to Making and Using Ethanol as a Renewable Fuel (Paperback)
by Richard Freudenberger (Author)
