Role of Libraries in the Post Peak Oil Transition

Books and Videos to Aid the Transition Movement

Since we are librarians I know we can pull together a great list of transition movement resources. Two outstanding books I would like to share with you are:

1. Depletion and abundance : life on the new home front by Sharon Astyk.
Philadelphia, Pa. : New Society ; Lancaster : Gazelle [distributor], 2008.

2. Culturequake : your children's real future by Chuck Burr.
Victoria, BC : Trafford, 2007.

Online Video - Rob Hopkins at the Positive Energy Conference part 1.
Rob Hopkins, founder of the transition town movement, tells his inspirational story at the Postive Energy Conference in the Findhorn Ecovillage. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kizxt14aPM8
How about Rob Hopkins' own book: "The Transition Handbook: From oil dependency to local resilience" Green Books, distributed by Chelsea Green, 2008. ISBN 9781900322188 ? I'm about a third of the way through it--very interesting discussion of the core elements of resilience and how to get the ordinary person to value it over the flashy trappings of consumerism.
